Rebecca, originally from Northern Ireland, holds a First-Class Honours degree in Music from Queens University Belfast, along with a Master of Music in Vocal Performance at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, under the vocal tutelage of Wilma MacDougall. Rebecca continues her singing studies privately in London with Kathryn Harries. Recently, she has worked for Northern Ireland Opera as a member of their Opera Studio for 2018-2019.

After receiving the Hamilton Harty Scholarship, Rebecca also studied with Daphne Evangelatos (Hochschule München).

 

With a passion for Music Education amongst children and adults, Rebecca has previously held the position of conductor of the Senior and Chamber Choirs at Our Lady & St Patricks Knock, Belfast. She has also conducted choirs in Kisumu, Kenya, through the work of charity Friends of Vispa. Previous to returning to Scotland, Rebecca was also the Vocal Coach to the Belfast Philharmonic Choir, Northern Ireland’s only symphonic chorus. She is an advocate for the methods of Zoltan Kodály, having taught musicianship at Belfast Philharmonic Youth Choir, and currently works on the NYCOS Staff as a teacher on the Youth Music Initiative scheme.

 

Rebecca currently has an extensive performance career with some recent operatic roles including Liscione in La Dirindina for NI Opera (Scarlatti/Martini), Rose Maurrant in Street Scene, Soprano 1 in Le Vin Herbé, Ella in If you can find me for NI Opera, Mabel in Pirates of Penzance for The Belfast Ensemble, Dido in Dido and Aeneas, and Maria in West Side Story. She has performed scenes as Vixen in The Cunning Little Vixen, Blanche in Dialogues des Carmélites, and Susanna in Le Nozze di Figaro. Her Chorus work includes Prokofiev’s The Fiery Angel (Scottish Opera), Pamplemousse – a children’s opera by Gregg Caffrey (NI Opera), Theodora (Sestina/Irish Baroque Orchestra), and Götterdämmerug under Sir Andrew Davies at the Edinburgh International Festival.

In 2016, she was a finalist in Northern Ireland Opera’s Festival of Voice Competition.

 

Rebecca has appeared with ensembles including Sestina, Genesis Sixteen, The Kellie Consort, RCS Voices, the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra, and Les Sirénes. In addition, she has made her recital debut at the Blackwater Valley Opera Festival, Co. Waterford, in association with the Irish Heritage Bursary after gaining second place in their Wigmore Hall competition 2017. She was also recently invited by BBC Northern Ireland to record a recital as part of their ‘Rosemary Street Young Artist recital series’.

Rebecca’s concert performances include Handel Messiah, Handel Alexander’s Feast, Bach Cantata BWV 199, Bach Magnificat, Brahms Requiem, Rutter Magnificat, Beethoven Mass in C, Vivaldi Gloria, Stanford Requiem, Mozart Vespers, and Handel Dixit Dominus.
